Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Welcome the participants
  • Remind the participants that this workshop is part of the course about Rohingya Culture and Traditions
  • Introduce today session (objective and how long it will be)

Ice-breaking game (10 minutes)

  • Ask the participants to stand in a circle.
  • One will volunteer to stand in the middle of the circle.
  • The person in the middle will say color or accessory. For example, “If you are wearing blue” or “If you are wearing a dress.”
  • The people who match that description will quickly try to swap places with another individual who matches that description. The person in the middle must also try to find a space so that one is left in the middle.
  • This new person in the middle now will do the same for example, “If you are wearing earrings” or “If you are wearing green clothes”.
  • Continue like this at least 5 times

Main activity (70 minutes)

Part 1 – Review of the last workshop (5 minutes)

Ask the participants if they remember what was discussed in the last workshop. Encourage everyone to participate.

Part 2 – Collecting of song and music (45 minutes)

  • Ask everybody to share the music they collected
  • After hearing from everyone, ask who would like to volunteer to record their song and music.
  • If there is a song that the majority of the participant knows, let’s practice the song by singing it altogether. After several practices, let’s record it. If somebody can use the musical instrument in the Ideas Box center to accompany you, let’s do it.

To identify an individual with the ability to play any musical instrument, ask these questions:

  • Does somebody know how to use any musical instrument?
  • If it is a musical instrument already present in the Ideas Box space, would s/he like to play it to complement the recording of music?
  • Listen to what has just been recorded, decide if we keep it or if we should do it again (if do it again, we practice first)
  • Careful: At the end of the session, the facilitator will save all the records in the laptop, in the same folder (the folder should have the name of the course and the target group), giving a clear title to voice record (like the title of the song and the information that it’s a fairy tales or a poem or a cooking recipe…)

Part 3 – Introduction of different clothing (15 minutes)

  • Tell the participants that you are going to see a video that will show Myanmar dresses.
  • Play the video “Myanmar dresses” from the folder “Discover the culture of the world” using the Ideas Cube.
  • After playing the video, explain: We have seen in the video how the Myanmar dresses have different cuts, shapes and colors.
  • Now show picture 1 and show how the clothing is different in different countries.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

  • Thank the participants for their involvement and concentration during the session.
  • Summarize what was learnt during the session

In today’s workshop we learned about different traditional song and music. We have also learnt about different musical instruments which complements songs. We were also introduced to different clothing.

  • Collect feedback from the participants and ask questions like: Do you feel that you learnt something during the session? Do you think this new knowledge can be useful to you? Were you comfortable during the session?
  • For the next workshop, ask your relatives and the elderly of the community to tell you about traditional clothing in the Rohingya culture and try to remember it well. If some people have traditional cloths, then try to bring it to the next workshop.
  • Give the date and location of the next session to the participants, make sure everybody will be available. If not, find a more convenient time and place so everybody can be here.
