Implementation

Draw a rectangle and divide it into nine pieces with straight lines, as in the picture: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Image_marelle_2.jpg. Then, number each box from one to nine. Give one stone to each participant. The idea is to start from zero and to go to nine. One by one, the first player starts from the “0” box and picks up their stone.
She/he throws the stone into the first box and then hops on one foot into this box.
She/he picks up the stone (remaining on one foot) and throws it into the second box and hops into it, and then throws it in the third box and hops into it. The stone thrown on either the fourth or fifth box is followed by a jump with both feet (left foot on the fourth box, right foot on the fifth box).
The game continues until the player reaches the “Ciel”, where she/he can stand with two feet. Then, the player must come as fast as possible back to “Terre” without throwing the stone, jumping with two feet on boxes seven & eight and four & five, and hopping on one leg on boxes six, three, two and one.

A player’s turn ends when the stone goes out of the “Marelle”, a box is missed, a foot lands on the line, or, if one’s balance is lost. It is then the next participant’s turn to play, starting from “Terre”. Once their turn comes again, players that faulted must re-start from the box where the fault occurred.

Steps to continue

In order to win, the participant must say the number in English.

Tips and tricks for the facilitator: this is a local Bengali game usually played by girls. If the boys don’t feel comfortable with this game, do not force them to play.
